Principles and conduct
AGM for 2024 has taken place. Thanks to all who attended.
Remember that the Riverbank Club is a family site and members are expected to behave accordingly. Anyone causing offence may lose their membership.
Members of the club should all have a key fob by now.
Please pay a £3 admission fee for visitors. Details on the noticeboard. Three visits maximum before visitors should apply to join.
Use of the site, and of the river, is at your own risk.
Don't annoy other people
Please give people the space and quiet to enjoy the river
See the committee
If you have a problem, please see a committee member (notice by the entrance)
Look after your key
It is your membership certificate. Unacceptable conduct can lead to loss of your key, and loss of membership of the club.
We try to be tolerant
Of each other, and to allow members of the public to enjoy the river too. If you give offence to members of the public using the river - eg in punts or canoes - you are liable to lose your membership.
Don't damage the site
There are no paid cleaners. Please take your rubbish home and do not damage trees, plants or wildlife at the site. In particular, discarded food will attract and sustain rats, bringing a risk of Weil's disease, which can be fatal.
The club site is a beautiful place and we share it with the Cambridge University Canoe Club and the owners of the site, the Cambridge University Swimming and Water Polo Club.
Please respect other members of the NRC, of the Cambridge University Swimming and Water Polo Club and the Canoe Club, the site, and the general public who may be passing by.
The full rules and guidelines are posted at the site and are given out to members when they join. The rules and guidelines above indicate some of the principles governing those guidelines.

Summary of safeguarding policy
The Newnham Riverbank Club has a safeguarding policy which is intended to help protect users of the site of all ages, and to guide the conduct of members and of the committee in the event of a concern. All users of the site are entitled to protection. What follows is a summary of the policy, not the policy itself; for more details please consult committee members.
Children on site:
The club is not staffed, and it is therefore essential that parents supervise their children at all times when on site. Legally, the definition of a child is anyone under the age of 18. All children must be supervised by an adult and those who are not will be asked to leave immediately and their key will be confiscated; parents would then have to apply to the committee for its return.
NRC committee will endeavour to ensure that all child and vulnerable adult safeguarding concerns are identified and reported to the appropriate agencies.
Disclosure: Any club member should inform the NRC committee about any incidents involving harm or potential harm to a child or vulnerable adult. This duty must not prevent a member from immediately reporting any serious incident immediately to the police. It will be appropriate for members to report any incidents of concern to the NRC committee who will pass these on to the designated club safeguarding officers for further action.
Members of the club MUST inform the committee if they have been cautioned, reprimanded or convicted for any of the following offences: causing physical harm to another (including common assault), an offence relating to child pornography, a sexual offence, an offence against a child or vulnerable adult, any offence involving dishonesty.
Equally, it is the responsibility of all members to inform the committee if they know of any member or guest who might pose a risk to children or / and vulnerable adults.
Behaviour on site
Any member who engages in any form of sexual activity on site will be immediately suspended, have their key removed and, pending committee review, will be liable to a lifetime ban from membership or attending as a guest in future. This includes guests of the club and potentially a ban for the club member hosting that guest.
Abusive, threatening, offensive or discriminatory behaviour or comments will not be tolerated in the club and could result in loss of membership.
